About Us

The Triangle Region Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program was instituted in 1995 as a combined effort to coordinate and facilitate regional and local approaches to manage the disposal of household hazardous waste. A major objective is to identify, develop and implement strategies to reduce the presence of HHW in our landfills and environment. This is accomplished by continually promoting a comprehensive education program to inform the public about reducing, reusing, recycling and properly disposing of HHW. This educational effort is offered via outreach programs, public service announcements, media displays, and promotional materials.

Other goals include:

The Regional Household Hazardous Waste Coalition is the group that sets the goals and priorities and oversees the activities of the program. The Coalition is comprised of and jointly sponsored through the participation of Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake Counties, the City of Durham, and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
